The little village of Knockcroghery in Co. Roscommon, a short drive from Athlone, has been famous for almost 300 years for its clay pipes or dúidíns. Today, with original moulds from the late 1800s, Ethel Kelly makes clay pipes using the same skills. employed by artisans centuries ago.
The ClayPipe Visitor Centre is located on the original site of the last pipe factory where you can enjoy photographs and artefacts relating to this unique facet of our heritage.
