Magical Christmas Market in Civic Square
The Christmas Market in Count John McCormack Square is bigger and better than ever running for nine days in this, its fourth year. A dozen gorgeous new wooden cabins will transform the civic square into a traditional Christmas Market with an enticing combination of hot food stands, artisan producers, Christmas gifts and jumpers. The huge Christmas tree sparkles with lights adding to the festive feel. The market takes place from Saturday 14th to Sunday 22nd December running daily from 12noon to 8pm.
Live entertainment under the new canopy takes place on both weekends from 2-6pm with music from local musicians and the wonderful Forget Me Not Choir. Then on Sunday 22nd, the man in the red suit, Santa Claus himself is making an appearance and is looking forward to meeting all the children.
Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the festive Christmas Market in the heart of Athlone. The medieval town centre is full of Yuletide cheer with the new Christmas lights twinkling overhead and the hustle and bustle of a festive fair. Come on down, grab yourself a steaming hot chocolate and join in the fun.
Athlone Christmas Market is run by a voluntary committee, Christmas Market Athlone, with support from Athlone Chamber of Commerce and Westmeath County Council. The ‘greening’ journey which began last year will continue throughout this year’s festival.
