Athlone Lights Up For Christmas

Athlone Lights Up For Christmas

Athlone Christmas celebrations start in earnest on Sunday 24th November with a Christmas Party and Christmas Lights Launch in Count John McCormack Square. It’s a real community event and everyone is invited so put on your Santa Hat, find that Christmas jumper and come on down to join in the fun. The fabulous new Christmas lights on the ancient Athlone streets, two huge illuminated Christmas trees, pole lighting on the Town Bridge and coloured lighting along the river are all part of this €200,000 project. Switching on the new lights is a true Christmas celebration for Athlone, the heart of it all. It will turn the town into a winter wonderland.

Party time is 4-6pm and there’s plenty on offer. Midlands 103 will have their roadshow onsite with presenter Pete Casey at the mic. Music from Adam Cooke & Band and songstress Aoife McCaul will keep everyone’s toes tapping. Mary Whelan Fox Speech & Drama School along with Athlone Pantomime Group guarantee entertainment and fun for everyone. Of course, no Christmas party would be complete without an appearance for Santa Clause and his elves so watch out for the merry man in the red suit.

Next door Athlone Towncentre are hosting a Countdown to Christmas family fun event from 1-4pm with face painting, festive characters, a balloon modeller and kids games.

See you at The Square on Sunday!
