One Town One Book Project

posted:Tuesday 8th November

The Official Launch of this year’s ‘One Town One Book’ project will take place in Athlone Library on Thursday November 10th at 11.00 a.m. As in previous years the project has been spearheaded by teachers who are involved in the Home School Community Liaison scheme and the School Completion Programme in the participating schools.

The launch will be performed by award winning Westmeath author Neil Richardson who lives in Tyrellspass. Neil is the author of ‘A Coward if I Return, A Hero if I Fall’ which relates the stories of Irishmen in World War I. Neil is an inspirational speaker who is sure to enthuse young readers.

The book chosen for this year is by the ever-popular author Michael Morpugo.

The book “War Horse” is a fascinating story set during the First World War. The story is told through the eyes of Joey, a horse who witnesses the reality of battle from both sides of the trenches. Joey tells a powerful story of the truest friendships in the worst of wars.

Westmeath County Library is delighted to be associated with such a wonderful reading initiative
