If frost freezes your pipes in your home, it is essential to act quickly to
protect your home from damage. The first sign of frozen pipes is no water.
If this happens, check with your neighbours to see if their water is running.
If it is, it is likely that your pipes are frozen.
If your Pipes Freeze
1. Locate your Stop Cock & clean it out (normally
in the footpath in front of your house)
2. Turn Off your Stop Tap/Stop Cock immediately by turning
it slowly clockwise.
3. Find the frozen pipe by checking all the pipe-work,
indoors & outdoors.
4. Turn on the Bath Tap (Hot & Cold) & the tap
nearest the frozen pipe.
5. Thaw the pipe by applying GENTLE HEAT, either with
rags soaked in hot water or a hairdryer, with it & the flex held well
away from the wet areas. If the pipe splits, call a PLUMBER immediately.+
If your Pipes BURST
1. Call a PLUMBER immediately. Prepare now by getting
the contact details of your local plumber.
2. Turn Off your Stop Tap/Stop Cock immediately by turning
it slowly clockwise.
3. Turn On All your taps in sinks & baths to drain
the system.
4. It may be necessary to Turn Off your Central Heating
system. Please get advice from your Plumber.
Please take safety precautions when using electrical installations &/or
accessing your attic or working at heights. In order to prevent freezing pipes
in future, please install insulation on your pipes & water tank.
