Athlone Fire Service
Athlone Town Council is one of 37 fire authorities in Ireland, indeed Westmeath
is almost unique in Ireland to have two fire authorities within it's county
boundary. While the fire brigade and station are financed from the coffers
of Athlone Town Council, the management of the service is provided from Westmeath
Co. Council.
Currently staffing levels at the station consist of a full time Station Officer and 15 retained fire fighters. The station deals with an average of 350 calls/annum with approx. 55% of these being chimney fires.
The station is situated in Beechpark West on the Coosan Point Road. The station is subdivided into 2 separate buildings, the main station building fronting onto the Coosan Point Road with the training tower at the rear of the site. The station building houses the brigade appliances (fire engines) and equipment.
Athlone Brigade provide a service to Athlone Town, South Westmeath and South Roscommon.
