Cllr Alan Shaw was elected to Athlone Town Council on the 7th June 2009.
Living in Cornamaddy, Alan was born in Co Mayo with family roots in Co Westmeath. He is a qualified Accountant working in Athlone with Russell Brennan Keane Accountants for 14 years and studied in Athlone Institute of Technology for 4 years prior to that.
Cllr Shaw is involved with a number of voluntary organisations in the town including the RTE All Ireland Drama Festival, Athlone Musical Society and Athlone Little Theatre over many years as well as Athlone Film Club. Alan is also chairperson of the Woodville Residents Association. Cllr Shaw has been actively involved in local politics for many years holding the positions of Secretary and Chairperson of Athlone Fine Gael as well as Youth Officer for the constituency.
Alan looks forward to working with all the elected Councillors and Council Executive for the benefit of our town in the years ahead. He has been elected to a number of committees including the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland, the Town Twinning Committee, the Board of Athlone-Ecom Ltd and the Westmeath County Council Arts Forum.
