The bus and train stations are on the east side of the Shannon on Southern Station Road, a ten minute walk from the town centre.
The Republic of Ireland's national bus line, Bus Éireann provides daily services to and from Athlone.

The town is serviced by an excellent rail line that connects Dublin to Galway and Westport. The main connecting train services in the region include Dublin/Galway, services daily on week days and Dublin/Westport trains, with services daily on weekdays.
